For some reason, when someone doesn't want to be my friend, I'm all OH WELL NEXT TIME THEY WANT TO HANG OUT, I'M GONNA SAY NO. It comforts me. Because I know that they will either never ask to hang out with me, or they will and I will say yes, all the while claiming that it's because I'm the bigger person. I guess what I'm saying is, I'm hurt. So fuck you.

Lines, Vines and Trying Times

In Defense of the Jonas Brothers

So I'm only going to say it once: I shamelessly love the Jonas Brothers. I think that they are attractive young men with strong moral values, and I think that they're incredibly refreshing. But that's not surprising. And the fact that I love their TV show Jonas isn't surprising, either, as it has been compared to The Monkees, Flight of the Conchords, and the cheesy Beatles movies. Everyone that knows me knows that I love cheap laughs and attractive young men-- virgins, in particular-- especially paired with music.

The most surprising thing is that it's actually paired with GOOD music. Okay, so the songs used on the show (such as "Pizza Girl," which lovingly proclaims "I feel in love with the pizza girl/now I eat pizza every day.") aren't astounding. And a lot of songs on their old albums are less than stellar. But, for the most part, I can honestly say that I have enjoyed almost all of the Jonas Brothers' singles, and I also like most of the songs on their fourth LP Lines, Vines, and Trying Times. In fact, I love most of the songs. Granted, there are three songs on the album that don't quite tickle my fancy, but I would even go so far as to say that they are completely decent songs. The youngest brother (and my personal favorite) Nick Jonas, writes most of their songs himself, with the help of his band mates on occasion. That's lyrics and music. And not only can he orchestrate lyrics that are... passable... but he has mastered a much trickier task-- finding catchy hooks and melodies that keep a song in someone's head. And the music itself isn't bad. It's enjoyable, to say the least. But it's also a little bit brilliant. At times, the music manages to be quite sexy, but still completely clean. I mean, I guess it's kinda hard to describe. But the music itself is strong and sensual, paired with lyrics that Mickey Mouse would approve of. Especially with the Neil Diamond-esque horn section added to the traveling band, and the four-piece string section, and the additional bassists and guitarists, the Jonas Brothers are releasing music that is complex and dynamic, and very high-quality.

Love them? Hate them? It doesn't matter. Because the Jonas Brothers are on to something huge. With their new album, it became clear that they are trying to show their chops as serious musicians, but still maintain their younger fanbase. And I think they can do it. I know that personally, I've been trying my best to spread the word and get their album into the hands of as many prospective fans as I can. Of course, the JoBros are fighting an uphill battle-- they are signed to Disney-owned Hollywood Records, they have a show on the Disney channel, they are famously romantically linked to other Disney stars (I'm looking at you, Nick. And Miley. And Selena.), and they claim to be serious rock-and-rollers whilst denouncing sex and drugs. So when people think of my three favorite brothers, they tend to think, "Oh, with the Hannah Montana and the youths and the little girls and the gays?"

And, I mean, that's pretty accurate. But the Jonas Brothers are legit, especially for their genre. They actually play instruments (Nick can play a shitton of them, and Kevin is crazy good at guitar. And Joe... has a tambourine?), and they write their own songs. They are cheeky. They are gimicky. But they are also loveable, admirable, listenable musicians. And I just hope that they can use the platform that Disney has given them and jump off into legitimate musicianship. And I hope that people shake the urge to vomit every time I tell them that I love the Jonas Brothers or swear that their music is more than tolerable.

Because, let's face it-- I consider myself a fairly intelligent nineteen year-old young woman. And I consider my taste in music impeccible. And if you told me this time last year that I would actually be writing a Xanga entry defending the Jonas Brothers and telling the world that I actually liked their music, I would've laughed in your face. And that's the problem. I hated them for who I thought they were, not who they actually were. (And are, which is a lot more promising.) So, yeah, they wrote and did the original Baby Bottle Pop theme song. But go listen to "World War III" and tell me it's not Chicago- and Michael Jackson-esque, and you'd be lying. They're experimenting with all sorts of genres, and I'm excited by the new prospects. And just because you're not sexing and drinking and smoking doesn't mean you can't REALLY be rock-and-rolling. I believe that. And so do the Jonas Brothers. It's just everyone else (you know, who isn't a girl from the ages of 7-14) that needs to be convinced.

Rock on (to the Jonas Brothers?),

So with one Matt 400 miles away and another in Georgia, I can safely say that there is nothing left for me in Spring Hill.

Because my friends fucking suck dicks. You know, the ones that aren't named Matt.

Must Be the Sign on My Head

Today, I remembered him. And it wasn't as unpleasant as it used to be. Of course, it wasn't super awesome, either

I guess I'm just updating to update, because I haven't in a while. Welp, I'm still alive.

Hey, so is Jesus! Happy Easter.
